Dark Mode is Coming To WhatsApp Very Soon

To all those who have been calling out for a Dark Mode Feature on WhatsApp, your calls have been answered!

After months of teasing and testing the dark mode option, Facebook has officially announced the launch of dark mode for WhatsApp this week, according to Social Media Today.

“Dark mode for WhatsApp offers a fresh look on a familiar experience. It’s designed to reduce eye strain in low light environments,” Facebook says. “And we hope it helps prevent those awkward moments when your phone lights up the room.”

WhatsApp users have been constantly requesting for a dark mode, as it has been requested as much as an edit option for Twitter, according to Social Media Today: “Dark mode for WhatsApp has been the most requested feature”.

Regardless of the fact that dark mode just looks so much better, there are key benefits to dark mode options in applications, are this mode limits the use of blue light which is designed to improve people’s ability to read off a screen in the daylight. On the other hand, blue light in a low light situation can stop the production of melatonin which leads to disrupted sleep cycles, difficulty to fall and stay asleep, according to Social Media Today.

For research results show that there has been an increase of adults who are getting less than six hours of sleep a night by 31%, this is because it has becomes a routine for most people to check their phones in bed right before they go to sleep, according to Social Media Today.

With such key benefits to the use of dark modes, most applications already have it as an option and now WhatsApp has caught up with the rest of these social media platforms.

This week WhatsApp Dark Mode will be released, so users on Android 10 and iOS 13 can use this new feature by enabling it in their system settings. While users on Android 9 and below can go into WhatsApp Settings -> Chats -> Themes and select Dark, according to Social Media Today.
