Facebook plans on integrating Giphy with Instagram and other apps in the future

Facebook is buying Giphy

According to The Verge, Facebook is buying Giphy, the popular GIF making and sharing platform, for $400 million with plans to integrate the massive GIF library to its platforms.

As per Facebook’s website

“By bringing Instagram and GIPHY together, we can make it easier for people to find the perfect GIFs and stickers in Stories and Direct. Both our services are big supporters of the creator and artist community, and that will continue. Together, we can make it easier for anyone to create and share their work with the world.”

Visual communication is particularly important for Facebook and Instagram stories so we imagine that the merger will result in even more GIF options to choose from.

People will still be able to upload GIFs; developers and API partners will continue to have the same access to Giphy’s APIs; and Giphy’s creative community will still be able to create great content,” Vishal Shah, Instagram’s VP of product, said in the post.
