On 12th November, the official BTS Twitter account confirmed that the lead singer will be performing at the opening ceremony. BTS’ agency Big Hit tweeted ‘Proud to announce that Jung Kook is part of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Soundtrack & will perform at the World Cup opening ceremony. Stay tuned! #FIFAWorldCup.’ The news caused him to trend at #1 worldwide on Twitter and sent ARMYs around the world into sheer excitement, even tweeting out with hashtags like #FIFAKOOK and #JungkookInQatar. The tweet currently sits at 622.4k likes and 291.9k retweets.

The FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony will be his biggest solo international stage yet. Since it had been revealed that the vocalist had been in Qatar in October, rumours about his appearance at FIFA had been circulating for some time. Jungkook was clicked at the Gimpo Airport in Seoul on the 15th of November, spreading the football fever while pretending to kick a football in his all-black ensemble looking super comfy.

Since then, the golden maknae (trans: youngest) has already been seen interacting and snapping photos with ARMYs in Qatar. BTS has been on a group hiatus focusing on their solo activities and their upcoming mandatory military enlistment since their last album Proof earlier this year. Members J-Hope and RM are set to release their solo albums soon.

Other performers at the opening ceremony include the English singer-songwriter Robbie Williams, the 6-time Grammy award-winning band The Black Eyed Peas, the Moroccan-Canadian Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi, and many more.
