October is the perfect month for movies, especially horror movies. With Halloween approaching, there’s no better time to curl up on the couch and watch something scary. But what to watch?

Here’s a list of horror movies that you can watch, one a day, for the entire month of October:

Day 1: The Shining (1980)

A writer and his family move into an isolated hotel for the winter, where he begins to suffer from cabin fever and writer’s block. Meanwhile, his son experiences disturbing visions, and his wife discovers the hotel’s dark secrets. This iconic movie starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, and Danny Lloyd is the best way to start this horror movie marathon.

Day 2: The Exorcist (1973)

In this classic horror movie, a young girl becomes possessed by a demonic entity, and two priests are called upon to perform an exorcism. It stars Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, and Max von Sydow.

Day 3: Alien (1979)

The crew of a commercial spaceship investigates a distress signal from a remote planet, but they soon find themselves the target of a deadly alien creature. This sci-fi/horror movie stars Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, John Hurt and is a movie you’ve probably had on your watch list for the longest time.

Day 4: The Thing (1982)

In this horror movie, a group of American researchers in Antarctica encounter a deadly alien creature that can perfectly imitate other living organisms. Starring Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, and Keith David, it’s sure to make it difficult to get some sleep at night.

Day 5: The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

You’ve probably seen this one, but since it’s a classic, we couldn’t leave it out of the list. In this film, a young FBI trainee is assigned to interview a brilliant but psychotic cannibal in order to track down a serial killer. It stars Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins, and is a perfect re-watch for the month in case you’ve already seen it.

Day 6: Se7en (1995)

If you want a movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and has an insane plot twist, this is the movie for you. In this crime thriller, two detectives investigate a series of murders committed by a serial killer who bases his crimes on the seven deadly sins. It stars fan favorite Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Spacey. It’s a movie you’re unlikely to forget.

Day 7: The Sixth Sense (1999)

This is a horror movie that will give you chills. Starring Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment, this film is about a child psychologist who treats a young boy who can see and communicate with dead people. It’s a film with a big plot twist that’s definitely worth tuning into.

Day 8: The Others (2001)

In this horror movie, a woman and her two photosensitive children live in a darkened old house, unaware that they are not alone. It stars Academy Award winning actress Nicole Kidman, and Christopher Eccleston.

Day 9: 28 Days Later (2002)

Starring Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy and Harry Potter’s Brendan Gleeson, this horror movie is about a man awakens from a coma to find that London has been deserted after a deadly virus has wiped out most of the population.

Day 10: Dawn of the Dead (2004)

A fan of zombie films? This horror movie is about a group of survivors barricade themselves in a shopping mall to escape a horde of zombies. Starring Sarah Polley and Jake Weber, it’s a classic you don’t want to miss out on.

Day 11: The Descent (2005)

If you scare easy, this movie is not for you. This horror movie is about a group of female cave explorers become trapped in a cave system with a group of predatory humanoids. it stars Shauna Macdonald, Natalie Mendoza, and MyAnna Buring.

Day 12: Poltergeist (1982)

This is a classic American supernatural horror film directed by Tobe Hooper and written by Steven Spielberg. It stars JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, and Beatrice Straight, and tells the story of a suburban family whose home is invaded by malevolent ghosts who abduct their youngest daughter. Poltergeist remains one of the most iconic and influential horror movies ever made. It is a film that will stay with you long after you have seen it.

Day 13: The Birds (2008)

The Birds is a classic Hitchcockian horror film about a small town that is inexplicably attacked by birds of all kinds. Day 14: Hereditary (2018)

A deeply unsettling and disturbing film, the movie is truly terrifying and unforgettable.

Day 16: X (2022)

In this horror movie, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but they soon find themselves being hunted by a mysterious killer. Starring fan favorites Mia Goth, Jenna Ortega, and Brittany Snow, it’s a modern thriller you don’t want to miss out on.

Day 17: Hush (2016)

Hush is an American slasher horror film written and directed by Mike Flanagan. It stars Kate Siegel as Maddie Young, a deaf-mute author who lives alone in a secluded house in the woods. One night, a masked killer appears at her window and begins to stalk her. Maddie must fight for her life in silence, using her ingenuity and resourcefulness to survive.

Day 18: A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

This is a film that will never be forgotten. The horror movie follows a group of teenagers who are stalked and murdered in their dreams by a disfigured serial killer named Freddy Krueger. Freddy’s victims die in the real world whenever they die in their dreams.

Day 19: The Blair Witch Project (1999)

The Blair Witch Project is a found-footage horror movie about three student filmmakers who go missing in the woods of Maryland while filming a documentary on the legendary Blair Witch. The film stars Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams, and Joshua Leonard, and will make it hard for you to get a good night’s rest.

Day 20: Barbarian (2022)

Barbarian is a horror movie about a young woman who arrives to a rental home she booked online only to discover that the house is double-booked and that a strange man is already staying there. Us is a suspenseful and thought-provoking horror film by Jordan Peele about how a family’s summer vacation turns into a nightmare when they are attacked by doppelgängers of themselves. It has a crazy plot twist and stars Black Panther’s Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke.

Day 22: Fresh (2022)

Fresh is a horror movie about a young woman named Noa who meets a charming man named Steve at a grocery store. They start dating, but Noa soon discovers that Steve is not who he seems. It is a suspenseful and disturbing film that has been praised for its performances, particularly those of Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan. It is a modern day must-see for fans of horror films.

Day 23: Suspiria (1977)

Suspiria is a horror movie about an American ballet student named Suzy Bannion who arrives at a prestigious dance academy in Germany, only to discover that the school is a front for a coven of witches. Day 24: The Witch (2015)

Day 27: The Babadook (2014)

The Babadook is a psychological horror film about a single mother, Amelia, and her young son, Samuel, who are haunted by a malevolent presence after Samuel finds a mysterious pop-up book titled “Mister Babadook.” This one is scary, and a great watch.

Day 28: Rosemary’s Baby (1968)

This horror movie is about a young couple moves into an infamous New York apartment building to start a family. Things become frightening as Rosemary begins to suspect her unborn baby isn’t safe around their strange neighbors. For an unforgettable plot twist, this is a great watch.

Day 29: Cure (1997)

This amazing Japanese crime thriller movie is about a wave of gruesome murders that is sweeping Tokyo. The only connection is a bloody X carved into the neck of each of the victims. In each case, the murderer is found near the victim and remembers nothing of the crime. Detective Takabe and psychologist Sakuma are called in to figure out the connection, but their investigation goes nowhere, until…

Day 30: Saw (2004)

This is a horror movie that needs no introduction, but we’ll give it one anyways. Obsessed with teaching his victims the value of life, a deranged, sadistic serial killer abducts the morally wayward. Once captured, they must face impossible choices in a horrific game of survival. The victims must fight to win their lives back, or die trying. Considered one of the scariest film series of all time, we suggest to end the month with this classic to remain forever haunted by it, even after Halloween.
