“I’m Just Ken”
Everyone seemed to personally love the Barbie movie, and they believe the soundtrack is a key reason why. While they enjoyed Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night” and Charli XCX’s “Speed Drive,” one song in particular stuck with the majority: Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken”. Most thought the song was humorous and catchy, but didn’t expect it to win “Best Song” at the Critics Choice Awards and, more recently, an Oscar nomination for “Best Original Song.”
Yes, the song is entertaining, but does it warrant an Academy Award nomination? The internet is divided.
Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt wrote and produced “I’m Just Ken”. Currently, “I’m Just Ken” has over 100 million Spotify streams. Following its success, Gosling teamed with Ronson in December 2023 to create three new versions of the song, featured on “Ken the EP”: a holiday version (“Merry Kristmas Barbie”), an acoustic version (“In My Feelings Acoustic”), and a dance version (“Purple Disco Machine Cover”),
Did Barbie truly showcase the gender inequality?
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie was a huge success. Barbie grossed more over $1.4 billion USD at the box office, making it the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros.’ century-long history, according to PR Newswire. Most significantly, it is the highest-grossing picture ever made by a female filmmaker at the domestic box office. This outstanding achievement deserves to be recognized, nominated, and honored. Despite her enormous success, Gerwig did not garner a single Oscar nomination.
Margot Robbie, the star of Barbie, received no nominations at the 2024 Oscars. Many people were surprised that Robbie was not nominated for “Best Actress” despite her performance as Barbie. While Barbie received several Oscar nominations, the actor and director did not, and the internet is upset about it.

Despite how stupid the majority think the song “I’m Just Ken” is, it has received acclaim and appreciation from reviewers. While a lot of people are “I’m Just Ken” fans, they aren’t sure how they feel about it being nominated for an Oscar. Yes, it is a popular song, but is it truly deserving of an Oscar nomination?
