How to sign-up for the Threads app using your Instagram

Twitter’s rival platform, Meta’s Threads app has introduced a new way to share texts and information

Threads app 1

Meta launched its brand new ‘Threads‘ app on July 6, 2023. The Instagram team built the Threads app for sharing text updates and joining public conversations, just like we do on Twitter.

Despite being an independent app, Threads is an integral part of Meta’s photo and video-sharing social media platform, Instagram, and you can actually use the same credentials for the sign-up process.

Log in for Threads using Instagram

Instagram has been teasing the launch of the Threads app all week long with App Store and Google Play Store listings revealing the launch date and the main threads.net homepage counting down to the service’s launch.

The sign-up process for the Threads app is comparatively less complicated for existing Instagram users, Meta has simplified the onboarding process. Users can join the waiting list through the Instagram app, and the company has even released an intriguing digital invite featuring the app’s logo.

Steps you need to follow when Signing-up from Instagram:

  • Search by typing ‘Threads’ in your Discover tab on Instagram.
  • You will then see a golden ticket on the right side of the search bar. Click the ticket.
  • You will be redirected to the threads logo followed by a QR code and your username and sign-in details

Your Instagram username and verification will carry over, with the option to customize your profile specifically for Threads.

Here’s how you can Sign-up for Threads (in general):

  • Download the Threads app on your iOS or Android device.
  • Open the app and click on “Log in with Instagram.”
  • If you already have the Instagram app installed on your device, Threads will automatically log you in.
  • If you don’t have the Instagram app, enter your Instagram credentials manually to complete the sign-up process

First look at the Threads app

The layout of the Threads app is clean and simple, with all of the basic functionality of the Twitter feed. Meta has logically sought to replicate the Twitter experience in the new app. Some users were able to gain early access to the in-app experience,  which enabled us to dig around some of the new app’s features.

Key Highlights:

  • Threads posts can be up to 500 characters long and can include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.
  • Just like Twitter, Threads are presented in the main feed with content recommendations, and you can like, re-post, and reply to each update.
  • It is designed to work on a decentralized protocol, enabling greater portability and data control.
  • All users will have a threads.net username, that’ll be discoverable across other apps.
  • You can choose to follow the same accounts you do on Instagram and find more people who care about the same things you do.
  • The core accessibility features available on Instagram today, such as screen reader support and AI-generated image descriptions, are also enabled on Threads.

Threads compatibility

Mark Zuckerberg just announced the initial version of Threads, an app built by the Instagram team for sharing text. Whether you’re a creator or a casual poster, Threads offers a new, separate space for real-time updates and public conversations.

Meta’s next move would be towards making Threads compatible with the open, interoperable social networks that the company believes can shape the future of the internet.

According to Meta, “We built Threads with tools to enable positive, productive conversations. You can control who can mention you or reply to you within Threads. Like on Instagram, you can add hidden words to filter out replies to your threads that contain specific words. You can unfollow, block, restrict, or report a profile on Threads by tapping the three-dot menu, and any accounts you’ve blocked on Instagram will automatically be blocked on Threads.”
