Takeaways from the trending trailer

Uploaded to YouTube just a few hours ago, the trailer on Netflix’s official channel has already accumalated almost 3 million views so far!

Throughout the clip, a version of Marilyn Monroe’s “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend” plays, and we see Marilyn grieving that someone returns to her.

Additionally, viewers can see excerpts of the iconic white dress incident above a subway, that Marilyn went on to become notable for and many have attempted to recreate artistically.

Although her life seemed full of glitz and glamour, Marilyn’s smile masked a world of darkness and we can see parts of this being depicted in the trailer as Netflix attempts to show her struggle with the pressures of fame and her mental health.

The film has been labelled as the platforms first Adult-Only film.

Writer and director Andrew Dominik stated that the narrative can be perceived differently, and there may be scenes that are offensive or sensitive to watch.

He went on to say “It’s not like depictions of happy sexuality. It’s depictions of situations that are ambiguous.”

“It’s a film that definitely has a morality about it. But it swims in very ambiguous waters because I don’t think it will be as cut-and-dried as people want to see it. There’s something in it to offend everyone.”

The trailer has generated a huge positive response from users, many people have stated that Ana is the perfect actress for playing Marilyn as she has been able to capture her true “essence”.

Another went on to say how the film deserves an “oscar” just from the trailer alone!
