Instagram Extends Reels up to 90 Seconds

The platform is following in the footsteps of competitor TikTok to extend videos.

Instagram Reels originally began with a limit of just 15-seconds, which soon doubled to 30.

However, the social media platform recently decided to extend the fun and offer users 90-second videos.

In addition to this, members of the app will have the option to choose from just 4 different lengths for their short-form videos.

Although they are yet to make an official statement on the update, the platform recently discussed their plans to enhance the Reels experience for their users. Just earlier this year, they created an exciting feature that allows you to convert Instagram Highlights into Reels.

This can be done by simply opening up a highlight, clicking on the Reel icon and tapping the share button.

In fierce competition with TikTok, owner of META Mark Zuckerberg stated that “Reels is already our fastest growing content format by far” and has been made available to over 150 countries. META claims that videos now account for “half of all time spent on Facebook and Instagram” and have also announced new ways for creators to make money via the Reels feature.

This will be apparent through experimenting with overlay adverts using stickers and banners on the app, to earn ad revenue for creators. Additionally, they plan to start running full-screen ads between Reels soon.

Aside for the Reels feature, content creators have the option to create longer videos through Instagram feed videos which are permitted to be much lengthier.

This social channel has been integral to the success of many influencers that offer creative ways for brands to promote their products. Businesses that regularly utilize Reels are already keeping ahead of competition, as they are increasing their visibility to new audiences through the Instagram algorithm. They have become to go-to feature for creating quick, fun and engaging videos that highlight the features of a product and educate their targeted audience.

Instagram is constantly developing through updating its user-tools for improved experiences   and is moving towards an immersive feed that allows for compact content, in order to integrate its multiple video offerings into one place.
