With TikTok promoting mental health and its commitment to maintaining a safe shared space for all our users, it wouldn’t be right for the platform not to come up with something in honor of Internet Safety Month, which takes place every year in June.
The video-sharing has released a series of TikTok summertime safety tips under the slogan #BeCyberSmart, which were created in partnership with various partner advisers to spread a new cybersecurity toolkit for families to promote the safety-related message during Internet Safety Month.

To give a detailed account of what users should do to stay safe while surfing the web and especially during Internet Safety Month, TikTok lists a number of recommendations on the app’s official website:
Surf smart: Use caution when connecting to unsecured public Wi-Fi on the go. Be sure to set strong, unique passwords on all accounts, and enable 2-step verification for an added layer of security.
Keep it all in the family: Check out TikTok’s easy-to-use safety and privacy controls with tools to customize your online experience.
Catch the right fish: Phishing is a tactic used to trick people into giving up personal information. Avoid opening, downloading, or clicking links and attachments from unrecognized senders.
Leave no trace: Keep all devices and apps updated with the latest software and offload unused apps. Before trading in devices, back up personal data like photos or videos, and erase all content and settings to keep personal information private.
Play, watch, and learn together: Download apps, watch videos, play games, and stay engaged as a family to foster camaraderie across generations. Learn more in our New User guide.
TikTok’s efforts for Internet Safety Month don’t stop here, as the platform is also recommending users to refer to its New User Guide that details the site’s safety and privacy features, giving them a better idea of the kind of personal information that is collected on TikTok in addition to the control they have over the ads they come across.

Last but not least, TikTok is also working with Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) for Internet Safety Month to provide online users with a useful step-by-step overview that they can follow to start adopting strong cybersecurity habits in their daily life to keep themselves protected from hackers and harmful online activities.
