We hate to burst your bubble but all those months you spent learning about and improving your Google rankings could very possibly go to waste with the new Google Search update.
Yesterday, Google announced that it is introducing a new Core update for Search labelled as the ‘May 2022 core update’, which is expected to modify the way sites will be listed on the Search results page.
Now if you’re wondering what this Google Search update actually entails and which changes is it bringing to life, then we can safely say that we don’t know either! This is due to the fact that Google never reveals exactly what’s being updated, which is actually not a bad idea considering the amount of users who are always looking to outsmart the system.
Instead, Google has just reassured users that the new Google Search update, aka ‘core update’, is just one of the several improvements that are constantly being developed throughout the year. Also, the Google team believes that these regular changes are necessary to keep up with the changes occurring on the web, which require some changes to the way some sites perform.
To add to that, Google gave a ‘sneak peak’ into what website owners can expect with the new Google Search update by stating:
“There’s nothing wrong with pages that may perform less well in a core update. They haven’t violated our webmaster guidelines nor been subjected to a manual or algorithmic action, as can happen to pages that do violate those guidelines. In fact, there’s nothing in a core update that targets specific pages or sites. Instead, the changes are about improving how our systems assess content overall. These changes may cause some pages that were previously under-rewarded to do better.“
In other words, your SEO strategies might not be as useful now seeing that your website may either go down the gutter or see a boost in search rankings, either way you might not be able to find the underlying reasons for that happening.
While we’re both in the dark when it comes to how the Google Search update works, at least you will be able to justify a sudden drop in website visits and pin it on the new changes, which does sound a bit frustrating for all the social media managers out there. However, you can still express what you truly think about this update through a forum thread created by Google.
All in all, as vague as Google’s input was when it comes to the nature of these changes, we can only predict that all the sacred SEO practices that have been established for a while now are yet again becoming absolute which leaves us with only one thing to say and that is good luck trying to improve your search rankings now!
