YouTube is expanding its creative features for influencers, following in footsteps of fierce competitor from TikTok. The platform just announced the launch of “Green Screen”, a new tool that permits users to include a 60-second video clip from any YouTube video or Shorts, in the background for their new original Shorts video.
According to TechCrunch, “The feature joins a number of other effects available now to YouTube Shorts creators, including the appearance-smoothing Retouch feature; a Lighting feature to boost dark environments; an Align feature that aligns the subject from the last frame of a video with a new video; a text and timeline editor to add messages over top videos; various video filters; and, most recently, Cut — the tool that effectively made all of YouTube’s public content possible Shorts material.”
A fantastic way that Creators can further unlock their published potential is to use this added feature as part of the growing trend of ‘reaction videos’, as seen on multiple social media sites.
Subscribers to YouTube influencers most definitely take an interest in the personal content they publish, but also their insights and opinions, which is another reason why this new tool will do so well.
By doing so, YouTube is helping Creators facilitate a new, continuous stream of content to be put out, without needing to invest in a time-consuming process to do so.
Google recently stated, that the Green Screen feature is available on iOS phones, and will be coming to Android very soon.
YouTube claimed that the new Green Screen remix tool can be used with any public YouTube video, unless the creator of the original post has opted out.
It is important to note though, that there are some exceptions to what can be used, such as any music videos that include copyright.
Similar to the platforms primary competitor TikTok, all videos that are created with the Green Screen will contain a direct link to the original content creator’s video for credit and attribution.
The platform has witnessed evident growth amongst the Shorts clips, as short-form video competition heats up. With over 30 billion views per day, we look forward to seeing what else YouTube brings out to create lucrative strategies for its creators.
TikTok, watch the space!
