Twitter To Ban Links To Other Social Media Platforms

Elon Musk’s Twitter team pulls another controversial move to ban other social media platforms.

Recently Elon Musk’s Twitter team plans to implement an action that restricts other social media platforms on Twitter. So it’s time to review your profile in order to avoid having your account getting suspended.

What’s Allowed Now?

Elon’s team has decided that your account cannot link to any other social media platforms as it is seen as free promotion of social media apps other than Twitter. The team explains that recently more users have been preoccupied with social media platforms that aren’t Twitter so by banning links to other platforms, Twitter can avoid juicing up its rivals and give itself more of a competitive edge.

Any links on your profiles to Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr, and Post will not be allowed on the platform. This also applies if you tweet with links to the above list; they will be removed and this can be cause for account suspension. Now even 3rd-party links and aggregators like Linktree are also banned.

While you can still share things from the platform, you can no longer link external apps or posts to your tweets. Cross-posting, it seems, is allowed, like when you share a link to something using the Twitter button from the share options. Posting your usernames for other apps is allowed. Moreover, links to YouTube, Pinterest, Reddit, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and even, TikTok, are allowed within the new policy.
