Instagram Might Be Categorizing Your Follower List Very Soon

According to a recent discovery by reverse-engineer Jane Munchun Wong (@wongmjane), Instagram is testing out using categories for your following list.

Accounts that you follow will be categorized into groups like ‘Art’, ‘News’, ‘Sports’, and so on based on their feed and business account preferences.

There will also be a “Most Shown in Feed” and “Least Interacted With” list counted every 90 days based on the user’s activity.

This new update will make it easier for accounts to filter what they see in their feed so that their interests don’t get too lost with accounts that they do not care for.

It is also a beneficial update for business Instagram accounts used by marketing brands and influencers to build their presence on the app. Their accounts will be able to shine more to the users.

Last year, Twitter tested out recommending to users which accounts they might not want to followers based on their activity to improve the content they see on their timeline. However, they have not given the results of this experiment.

There isn’t any confirmation from Instagram at the moment that this update will be available or shown to the public in the near future. Jane Muchun Wong’s discoveries usually come true within a few months so it might be sooner than you think.
