Kindred

This FX series is adapted from the late Octavia E. Butler’s novel of the same name. The series stars Mallori Johnson as Dana James an aspiring author who has the ability to time-travel and bounces between her home in California and a pre-Civil War Maryland plantation. The series sees Dana trace her family’s origins as she travels back in time. The series will be available on Hulu on December 13th

Darby and the Dead

Darby and the Dead is a supernatural teen comedy movie starring Riele Downs and Auli’i Cravalho. The movie was released on December 2nd. It’s a teen comedy that is reminiscent of a 90s sitcom with its extreme characters, witty narration, and colorful aesthetic. The story involves Darby when she encounters the ghost of her ex-best friend. The plot is friendship-focused and talks about healing and grief.

Rosaline

Rosaline is a Hulu original that stars Kaitlyn Dever from Booksmart and it is a comedic retelling of Shakespeare’s most famous play “Romeo and Juliet” from a different point of view. It is based on Rebecca Serle’s novel “When You Were Mine”. This retelling follows Rosaline’s point of view, Romeo’s jilted ex. The movie has drama, comedy, and a whole lot of sarcasm. The movie was released on December 6th. It also stars Isabela Merced and Sean Teale.

Dollface

Dollface is a Hulu series that stars Kat Dennings, Brenda Song, and Shay Mitchell. The series sees Jules (played by Kat Dennings) facing her own demons and imagination while rekindling old friendships after being dumped by her longtime boyfriend. The show is a rollercoaster ride about girl code, the do’s and don’ts after a breakup, and female friendships. The series concluded on Hulu earlier this year.

The Girl from Plainville

This Hulu original series stars Elle Fanning, Chloë Sevigny, and Colton Ryan. The series is based on a real-life “murder” case. The series follows the events leading up to the death of Conrad Roy III and Michelle Carters’ (played by Elle Fanning) conviction of involuntary manslaughter. The series concluded earlier this year.

Candy

This series is also based on a real-life murder. Candy is about a housewife and mother in the 1980s named Candy Montgomery who was the perfect person on paper. Candy was accused of murdering her neighbor and friend Betty Gore. The story follows the events that lead up to the murder and the court case. The series stars Jessica Biel and Melanie Lynskey as Candy and Betty respectively and was released earlier this year.  

White Lotus

The White Lotus is an Emmy award-winning drama comedy satire surrounding twisted truths of the guests, the staff, and the locale of a resort during vacation season. The show has themes of classism, imperialism, suspense, mystery, and more. The series has two seasons. The first season starred Sydney Sweeney from HBO’s Euphoria and Alexandra Daddario from Baywatch and 2010’s Percy Jackson franchise. Recently the second season has been trending due to the witty dialogue and popularity of both Aubrey Plaza and Theo James.
