Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama Collab Together Again

The preeminent artist Yayoi Kusama and Louis Vuitton collaborate on another collection after 11 years.

Louis Vuitton drops a new collection with the artist Yayoi Kusama. This is Yayoi Kusama’s second collaboration with Louis Vuitton and it’s caused a storm. The collaboration was on Louis Vuitton’s 2023 Cruise show. The iconic polka dots and the chromatic colors with the classic Louis Vuitton Monogram were seen in the hands of a few celebs ahead of the launch.

Yayoi Kusama is a contemporary artist famous for her works in installations and sculpture. Her works have influences and messages of feminism, conceptualism, pop art, minimalism, and more. Kusama was inspired by and part of the avant-garde scene in the 1960s before she work with museums with installations collaborated with brands like Bloomingdales and even started her own fashion company. Moreover, Kusama is also an advocate for raising issues of mental health.

Last Thursday they held a pop-up store in New York’s Meatpacking District, across from the Whitney Museum. In addition to this, LV and Kusama also had a pop-up store in Harajuku, Tokyo. Both stores are very instagrammable destinations. The stores had gorgeous decor and were decked out with excessive installations to celebrate the bold and playful designs from the collaboration. Many bloggers have posted the eccentric installations and the magical decor of both pop-up stores.

This LV collaboration isn’t Kusama’s first rumble in the fashion industry. The artist has collaborated with the french fashion house 11 years ago in 2012. At the time, the creative directing was led by Marc Jacobs and the designs and aesthetics were guided by pop-art influences and a little mix of the stylings of Minnie Mouse.

This year’s theme is “Creating Infinity”. The theme is meant to represent Kusama’s fantastical world. On the front are models, Bella Hadid, Giselle Bündchen, Fei Fei Sun, Devon Aoki, Christy Turlington, and Anok Yai captured by Stephen Meisel. The designs are to be representing Kusama’s brushstrokes and artistry to give a multidimensional and popping effect.

Celebrities like Miranda Kerr, Hoyeon Jung (from Squid Game), Taeyeon from Girls Generation, Hwasa from MAMAMOO, HYEIN from NewJeans, and influencer and blogger Caroline Daur were seen wearing the items from the collab.
