The Weeknd Breaking Records
Canadian singer, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye more widely known as The Weeknd, put out his fourth studio album “After Hours” in 2020. It was the artist’s first full-length album in four years and many of the songs were positively reviewed by critics and listeners alike. The album and music videos had morose and chaotic visuals juxtaposed with a mix of hopeful, sad, and personal lyrics accompanied by an 80s synth and trap beats.
The album and its promotions had people questioning whether the singer had gotten extreme plastic surgery. The album had eventually become an ice-breaker and a conversation starter. 3 years later, on the last day of 2022, Blinding Lights the fourth track and one of the more popular songs from the album becomes the most streamed song ever. Now Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You and The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights are the only tracks on Spotify to pass the 3 billion streams mark.
