About Matthew Perry
In a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning, “Friends” actress Courtney Cox, said she still “spiritually” communicates with her late co-star Matthew Perry who passed away on October 28, 2023 at 54 years of age. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, Perry’s death was caused by “acute effects of ketamine.” The cast members later took to their Instagrams to share grief and pay respects to their co-star.
Actress Jennifer Aniston shared a photo of Matthew and herself on the Friends set, saying: “He made all of us laugh…you always made my day.”
Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow, known as Phoebe on Friends, also shared to her Instagram tributing her co-star’s death. As a caption to a heartwarming picture of Lisa alongside Matthew, the actress said: “Thank you for the best ten years a person gets to have.” She added: “Thank you for making me laugh so hard at something you said that my muscles ached.”
In an issued statement, the cast of “Friends”, including Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer said: “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.” Read more about other responses from the cast.
Interview With Courtney Cox
In the latest interview, the actress also known as Monica Geller from Friends, said she feels as though he is still around, more precisely around her in “spirit.” She said “he visits me a lot, if we believe in that.” When talking about him, she said: “I think he’s probably one of the funniest human beings in the world,” adding that “he has genuinely a huge heart and obviously struggled.”
In addition to feeling spiritually connected to Perry, Courtney Cox added that she also believes other significant figures in her life who have passed away continue to guide her. “You know, I talk to my mom, my dad, Matthew—I feel like there are a lot of people that, I think, guide us,” she said.

When speaking about the 20th anniversary of the sitcom’s finale, Cox also relayed that she is thankful she got to work so closely to him for so many years seeing as the show had run for 10 back to back years. Perry and Cox’s characters eventually fell in love and got married in later seasons with Perry being portrayed as Chandler Bing in Friends and Cox as Monica Geller. Ultimately all the cast members formed family-like bonds amongst one another seeing as they spent so much time together.
