Maryam Maher made her team, country, and region proud as the 16-year-old Bahraini gamer became the first GCC-based female to not only join a reputable international Esports team but was able to claim victory and take the winning prize home.

Playing it out for the victory trophy at the Valorant Champions 2022: Game Changers event, the collective efforts of the G2 Gozen team demonstrated skill, agility, concentration, and group efforts all bonded by womanhood to deliver a message of solitude, representation, and empowerment.

G2 Gozen takes the victory trophy home while Maryam Maher dedicates her win to Bahrain and Middle Eastern female gamers.

In a beautiful celebratory video shared on Maryam’s Instagram profile, she gave a shoutout to her mother country Bahrain and the immense support she’d received from the Middle East to represent the region’s talents on such a wide international platform. Standing on the podium only as a teen, with a trophy in hand she made sure to use her voice to send a strong message to young aspiring gamers, especially Arab women to believe in themselves and that anything is possible.

Many might say the group initially had all odds stacked against them as they are the first-ever all-female team to compete in the Valorant Champions, but like all happy endings, the underdogs walked away with the glory of sending a global message and a trophy by their side.

The Valorant Champions, better known as the VCT (Valorant Champions Tour) is a global competitive E-Sports tournament series for the video game Valorant organized by Riot Games, the game’s developers. The tournament is comprised of 3 different tiers: Challengers, Masters, and Champions and runs multiple events throughout each season, culminating in Valorant Champions, which is the top level of the tour.

Maryam Maher played part of the G2 Gozen team, a Spanish professional Esports organization that is currently situated in Berlin. The all-girls team is comprised of 5 gamers including, Julia Kiran ‘Juliano’, Petra Stoker ‘Petra’, Michaela Lintrup ‘Mimi’, Anastasiya Anisimova ‘Glance’, and Maryam Maher ‘Mary’ are the members of the team.

As we wait in anticipation to see what the all-female-led gaming team will accomplish next, it’s evident that not only did G2 create female empowerment worldwide, but Maryam Maher made sure to pave the way for Arab representation in the gaming world for aspiring young talents.
