Every year on April 22, or what is also known as Earth Day, people all over the world take it to social media to show their appreciation for our planet and remind us that there is no planet B. This special occasion is awaited by environmentalists who are eager to spread their message and Meta is now helping them do just that with the new features it released on Messenger and Messenger Kids exclusively for this day.
In partnership with Aran Quinn, who is both an illustrator and an animator, Meta will be releasing “Everyday Earth” that will introduce a series of custom in-thread and camera stickers, which according to the platform will help “celebrate our planet and reinforce the “nearness of nature” in our everyday lives.”
The green concept will also be reinforced by setting in motion different effects in the Earth Chat theme, in addition to 3D Avatar stickers that are guaranteed to show your dedication to the notion of climate change.
To add to that, Meta’s team has also teamed up with Ellen DeGeneres to recreate her Heads Up! game and adapt it to Group Effects while making it eco-friendly and relating it to Earth Day; your group chat has never looked so green and fun!
Even kids can join in on the fun through Messenger Kids, where they’ll be able to add their photos and decorate them with Earth Day frames or even AR masks.
After introducing the artwork and features that will be available in honor of the event, Meta also gave users the following detailed guide to help them access the unique tools that will assist them in expressing their yearning to make the world a happier and healthier place to live:
Stickers – Download the “Everyday Earth” sticker pack by tapping the smiley face in chat, navigating to stickers, and tapping the store icon in the bottom right corner. On Instagram Stories, press the sticker tool, select “GIF” and then search #EarthDay
Chat Theme – To use the Earth chat theme on Messenger, tap the name of any chat thread and select ‘Theme.’ On Instagram, open a chat thread and tap on the information button at the top right corner of your screen, then select ‘Theme.’
Word Effects – To view the Earth chat theme word effects in Messenger, tap the name of your chat thread, and select “Word effects”. You can also create your own word effects for separate chats, just tap the name of any chat thread and select “Word Effects”.
3D Avatar Stickers: To create an Avatar and share as a 3D sticker, in a Messenger chat tap on the smiley face then select the sticker button. Click “make your avatar” to customize and dress your avatar, then you’re good to share in a Messenger chat or in comments on Facebook posts. If you already have an Avatar and want to change it, click the smiley face on a Messenger chat thread, then the sticker button. Click on “See What’s New” and choose “Edit your Avatar” to view customization options. From there you’re ready to share!
Group Effects – Head to your Instagram or Messenger app, start a video call, tap the smiley face to open the effects tray, and select Group Effects to access the Heads Up! Science Lab card pack.
Messenger Kids: To access the Earth Day camera stickers, frame and AR effect, select the camera button and tap to access the effects tray.
