Nusret Gökçe, nicknamed Salt Bae, is a Turkish chef and food entertainer whose trick for seasoning meat became an Internet meme in 2017. The chef started trending earlier this week for his behavior at the World Cup. The chef had taken to social media to post multiple pictures and videos of himself touching the trophy and asking players such as Messi to pose for snaps after the final match.

This made a lot of fans angry as they believed that Salt Bae should not be allowed to touch the trophy as there should be rules for who should be allowed to touch the sacred trophy. Fans also remarked that he was getting in the way of the team trying to celebrate their win. After the anger and criticism on social media, the US Open Cup tweeted that due to this behavior of his, he would be banned from the Tournament. Many applauded and retweeted the tweet banning him and some defended him.
