As TikTok gains more and more dominance in the social media world, other platforms are constantly searching for new features to drive traffic to their own apps and Twitter is definitely one of them; by proceeding with testing the following feature, you could say that Twitter is on its way to becoming a ‘new TikTok’.
In a recent tweet, social media expert Matt Navarra gave us a glimpse of a new format for Twitter’s Explore page, which looks very similar if not identical to TikTok’s; however, that’s not all. It seems that the platform is always working on a ‘For You’ page that aims to bring users the top content matched to them, based on its popularity and their interests.
To add to that, the new layout is set to feature two elements: the main ‘Trending’ page will offer users the ability to choose between ‘Personalized’ or ‘Top Trends’, to give them the choice of seeing content that is specific to their own interests or content that is popular and trending.
Now the ‘For You’ section is what’s really worth highlighting. As soon as users click on it, they are met with a vertical TikTok-like screen that allows them to scroll down to discover a series of video tweets and a few text tweets incorporated here and there. While it might be difficult for loyal Twitter users to get used to these changes at first, this move towards a more immersive experience might be a good step forward for the platform. Also, by testing the features first, Twitter can have a better understanding of their users’ habits and platform usage in order to make improved changes in the future.
But how will it collect new data? Well, the full-screen display format showcases each video tweet or text tweet separately, allowing the app to receive direct feedback on each post, seeing that any action that is taken by the user will indicate just how interested they are in the content displayed in front of them, thus improving recommendations on the platform.
It should be noted that this new format is still being experimented, but seeing that more and more users are noticing these changes, it seems that Twitter’s initial tests have been successful; now it’s time for it to move into the next phase.
