Vevo and TikTok have just announced that they will be collaborating to launch a new weekly series called “Trending on TikTok”. The show will be distributed on the Vevo platform. The series will also feature a compiled list of trending songs on TikTok.
Vevo & TikTok’s New Series
This partnership was planned after YouTube introduced its YouTube Shorts. Vevo is hosted on YouTube but is owned by the record labels; Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group. As TikTok‘s recent update facilitates their users’ viewing options by adding horizontal viewing, TikTok has been seen as a new rival for YouTube that was encroaching on their territory, especially since the app increased the length of each video to up to 10 minutes.
TikTok is also known for making underrated bands and music viral. The app has also aided in the revival of both the Y2K fashion aesthetic as well as Y2K music. So the partnership of Vevo and TikTok and the implementation of the music segment will be an interesting watch as many TikTok users go to the app to discover new music as well as new content.
As there was a recent rise in underrated songs and artists going viral due to their sped-up or slowed-down song mixes on TikTok, the plan is for users to seek out songs on Vevo after being exposed to them on TikTok. Now as TikTok users keep increasing, this partnership aims to treat the new show “Trending on TikTok” like it’s a television series.
