When it comes to empowering fellow creators, the influencer community on Instagram is one of the most supportive on social media platforms. The creators have numerous ways of crediting fellow artists on posts, including listing them in the caption and tagging them on the picture, video, or reel. The importance of tagging becomes even more substantial when taking into consideration underrepresented creators and collaborators.

Crediting underrepresented creators is the most effective way of opening up opportunities for influencers on Instagram. It is the way they can be discovered which will lead to their economic empowerment. Instagram explains: “Enhanced tags allow a creator’s self-designated profile category on their professional accounts to be displayed in their People Tag so that people can share and view a creator’s specific contribution to a photo or video post.”

How to use enhanced tags in 9 simple steps

  • Open the app to post a picture, video or reel by clicking on the (+) sign in the top right corner
  • Create your post and tap ‘Next.’
  • Make the edits you require and select ‘Next.’
  • Get creative with your caption
  • Tap ‘Tag People’ to start crediting creators
  • Choose ‘Add Tag’ and search and select your contributors
  • You can now tap ‘Show Profile Category’ to display the creator category
  • And tap Done
  • Go ahead and choose Share once you are done tagging additional accounts!

Instagram sees that creating a community that gives due credit to influencers and creators on the platform is essential. It lets creators represent themselves by their field of expertise, making it easy for them to be discovered for their work.

Creating together and inspiring one another is the essence of the artistic and creative community on social media platforms such as Instagram. Empowering one another is the way to promote and sustain growth. By launching enhanced tags, Instagram gives collaborators a way to do this easily and effectively. Instagram explains, “For many Black and underrepresented creators, crediting is an entryway to building a sustainable career as a creator, while combating cultural appropriation and ensuring the world knows who is driving culture”.
