Social media platforms are always looking to upgrade their apps for better UX and UI. With many people using social media, the digital era is growing rapidly, and therefore why apps are looking for ways to add useful features.
What are Product Drops on Twitter?
Twitter is used as a platform to share quick updates through Tweets, but the app is growing and updating daily. Twitter users like to be updated on current news topics or share their ideas on a new launch, product, tv show, and anything else happening in the world that users want to talk about.
The platform has seen a trend in users wanting to know more about products but do not remember when the product launches, and therefore miss the item they were looking forward to purchasing. Therefore, Twitter has introduced a new shopping feature to ‘empower shoppers to stay on top of the launches that matter most to them and provide merchants with another way to engage shoppers around big product moments.’
Now, when you see a product that you want to be reminded about, you will see a “Remind me” button at the bottom of the Tweet. This will then send you a notification on the launch day 15 minutes before the product is about to “drop” so you can be one of the first to know and purchase directly from the merchant’s website before everyone else.
On the day of the launch, you will see a “Shop on website” button, and once you click on this, you will be re-directed to the website, instead of the Twitter post. Prior to clicking on the “Remind me” link, Twitter users can find out all of the details of the product, what everyone is saying about it and more on a full detailed page to make an informed decision of if you want to be notified on the day of launch.
Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3
At the moment, Twitter is testing the feature for US shoppers online who use Twitter in English on iOS devices. Brands who will be seen on the Product Drop feature are @Dior, @Fossil x @JeffStaple, @HomeDepot, @LEGO_Group, and @unionlosangeles.
