Here are our top 5 DIY hair recipes:

Detoxifying Scalp Salt Scrub

Every now and then it is essential to get rid of dirt build-up in our hair follicles. Unfortunately washing your hair is sometimes not enough and can be damaging as it rids the hair of its natural oils, but does not penetrate deep enough into your scalp to clean trapped and accumulated oils. What’s particularly amazing about this scrub is that it contains our favorite miracle ingredient: apple cider vinegar.

What makes apple cider vinegar so magical is that is it a multi-functional beauty hack ingredient that can be used either for your skin or your hair as it contains anti-fungal properties. Apple cider vinegar rids your scalp of dandruff by killing any accumulated fungus around your hair follicles while restoring your scalp’s natural pH levels. This scalp scrub which is combined with hydrating, nourishing ingredients like coconut oil and honey, it’s pretty much unstoppable and quite yummy too!

Ingredients:
¼ cup ground Himalayan pink salt (use coarse sea salt if you can’t find any)
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar, preferably organic (swap for baking soda if you prefer)
1 tbsp coconut oil (melted)
1 tsp honey
5 drops of peppermint or tea tree oil (you can skip this if you don’t have any)

1. Combine the ingredients in a bowl, and stir
2. Apply a tablespoon onto damp hair, gently messaging it into your scalp
3. Leave the scrub on your hair for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing with warm water, followed by shampoo and conditioner

Avocado Hair Mask

Although our hair might feel like it’s producing excessive oils and grease on some days, it’s essential to keep both your scalp and hair nourished even when you don’t feel like adding any more oily substances to your haircare regimen. Your hair follicles tend to produce more oil faster when you wash it too regularly, as the body feels that it’s being stripped of too much of its natural nourishments. A top ingredient that can easily be found in your kitchen to help balance natural oil production and reintroduce nourishing factors is avocados. Avocados are super nourishing and hydrating for your hair, as they’re full of fatty acids, and protecting vitamins E and B. This mask is super easy to make and you can totally customize it depending on what you have at home.

Ingredients:
1 avocado
1 tablespoon of honey (optional)
2 tablespoons of coconut/ argan/ olive oil (or whatever oil you have)

1. Mix all the ingredients in a blender to get a smooth consistency that feels like a conditioner. (If you don’t have a blender, mash up the avocado with a fork and whip in the other ingredients for a lightweight texture.)
2. Apply the mask all over dry hair, focusing on your ends and also applying to your scalp.
3. Leave the mask on for one hour, and then wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner, as usual
