Meta expands paid verification
The expansion of Meta’s paid verification services was announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg at an event today. Earlier this year, Meta Verified was announced for creators, who can access features such as blue checks, priority customer support, and protection from impersonations for just $12 per month.
In this update, businesses can buy verification for $22 per month for Instagram or Facebook, or get verification on both social media platforms for $33. This is a large increase from the creator’s fee which ranges from $12 to $15. Testing on Facebook and Instagram will begin in the coming weeks, with WhatsApp to follow soon after.
However, verified businesses also get another benefit that creators don’t: they get increased visibility in searches on Facebook and Instagram. Additionally, businesses can create a landing page on WhatsApp with the ability to have multiple employees chat with and respond to customers. This landing page can be found through a web search.
Additionally, verification for businesses will require businesses to meet certain activity and security requirements, and the person applying must prove their connection to the business.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, shared the news on his WhatsApp channel, stating that, “Meta Verified includes business authentication, with a verified badge, proactive impersonation protection, access to account support, and features to help your business get discovered.”
The new features for verified businesses come at the heels of X’s newest announcement of features available to X Premium subscribers. X Premium, formerly known as Twitter Blue, is a paid subscription service that provides several features for individual users, including verification, the ability to hide liked tweets, to edit tweets.
