This study technique allows the student to have a deep understanding of the topic being studied. Richard Feynman, a Nobel-prize-winning physicist, surprised people with his ability to explain complicated subjects in simple terms.

Step 1

Choose a concept or subject. Once you’ve chosen this concept write down everything you already know about this subject on a paper. Do it as though you are explaining the topic to a child. The more you learn about the topic keep adding to this paper in the same fashion.

Step 2

When you think you can relatively understand the chosen subject. Verbally explain the topic out loud. The key here is to act like you are explaining it to a twelve-year-old. Replace any complicated jargon with simpler words and use words. Find out where the gaps in your knowledge are after you remove the complicated words and improve those bits.

Step 3

Run the idea by someone else. Also, reflect and refine. Double-check whether you’ve understood the material at hand and don’t gloss over anything complicated.

Step 4

Organize and review. Take the material you’ve just learned and teach it to someone else. What parts were the most confusing to hear? Which parts weren’t clear enough? Which parts of the explanation were actually understood?

Try out this study technique that is popular among students on StudyTok whenever you need a helping hand in your studies.
