Animated shows are a powerful learning tool for children while growing up but they are also equally powerful storytelling media that tests creativity and imagination. In the world of animation, there is magic and fascinating colors and it can be an entertaining educating tool.
Animated shows aren’t limited to children, several adults still watch animated shows. Some studies even show that watching cartoons can also work as a stress reliever as it helps release endorphins from laughter. With the abundance of TV channels and networks, there are a lot of animated shows to choose from, sometimes because we have so many choices, some good shows don’t get noticed as much. Here are a few shows you may have missed from your childhood.
My Life as a Teenage Robot
This series is a superhero comedy that centers around Jenny Wakeman, a sensitive high-schooler who also happens to be a state-of-the-art robot. Jenny wants to be like a normal girl and spend time with her friends but is often dragged into apocalyptic and earth-shattering events; literally.
Totally Spies
Totally Spies is a spy-fi action series about three students from Beverly Hills who are hired by a secret organization, called WOOHP, to solve espionage cases all around the world. Clover, Sam, and Alex each have their unique quirks and styles and the design overall in the animated show is also very brilliantly done.

Daria
Known for its alternate aesthetic, sarcasm, and relatable characters, Daria is an MTV animated show about a smart and cynical teenager, Daria. The show plays out through her high school years as she meets many strange characters and stereotypes. Daria was a character from Beavis and Butthead, another MTV show, but the creators decided she deserved her spinoff series.
Dexter’s Laboratory
This show is a comedic science fiction about Dexter, a child genius who invents brilliant inventions in his secret laboratory, and his annoying sister Dee Dee who frequently wecks his inventions. This animated show was known for it’s easily recognizable character designs and clever writing.
Samurai Jack
Samurai Jack is an action-adventure show about a samurai who is sent to a dystopian future by an evil shape-shifting wizard. Samurai Jack aims to defeat the wizard, undo the wizard’s destruction, save the world, and find a portal back home. This animated show is known for its epic battle scenes which were cleverly choreographed and its artistic designs and aesthetic.
The Proud Family
The Proud Family focuses on Penny Proud, a young girl fighting her tumultuous teenage years, navigating high school, and finding independence. The show is a family-centric, slice-of-life comedy that is as educating as it is enjoyable. The latest season can be streamed on Disney Plus.
The Penguins of Madagascar
While the Madagascar movies got famous many felt they wanted more from the penguins which were some of the most adored characters from the movie franchise. The Penguins of Madagascar animated show is an action comedy series that focused on the four penguins; Skipper, Rico, Private, and Kowalski, and their paramilitary-style missions in the Central Park Zoo.
