Meta announced new connection tools for Instagram this holiday season. These tools adhere to current user engagement trends and encourage users to share more personal moments and interactions online.
The “Notes” Feature
This is a new status-type feature that encourages conversation and comments that sits above your profile picture in your messages inbox similar to viewing stories. The Notes feature allows messages that can go up to 60 characters. This feature can be a casual status update or a tiny message to your friends. you can select who views the note (Like your Close Friends List or select friends who follow you back) and these notes last for 24 hours. Any replies to these notes will go to your DMs.
The “Add Yours” Feature Update
Last year with the addition of the “Add Yours” feature on Instagram, many users found creative ways to share moments with others and find similarities. The new update to this tool features a “Pass it on” button where you can pass on the prompt to a friend who suits it; making it easier to control your interactions within the app.
Candid Stories: A BeReal Clone?

Just like BeReal, Candid Stories allows users to share what they’re doing at the moment. There will be a multi-user Candid Stories button where the stories are located where you view your friends’ candid stories. Like BeReal users can opt to receive a notification reminder to post in the Candid Stories, for those who don’t want to, the notification can be switched off. Meta also notes that it is testing this same feature for Facebook.
Group Profiles & Collaboration
This tool invites Instagram users to engage in more group-sharing activities. This feature functions to improve group communications within the app with new profiles that are only available to group members where users can post collaborative collections.
Users can post their entertaining content for the group’s eyes only, and it won’t be shared with other followers. Moreover, Collaborative Collections will enable users to save posts to a private collection within their group chat.
