Many people on the Threads app have been asking whether hashtags work on Threads, so we did some research to find out the details!
Hashtags on Threads
Firstly, to answer your question short and sweet, hashtags do not work on Threads. Although the feature is popular on other social media channels and Threads’ sister channel Instagram, it does not yet work on Threads.
Unlike Twitter, Threads does not yet have an explore page or trending tabs. Usually, this is where you would find the hashtags that are trending and it helps to organise algorithms as well as where profiles are featured, and what topics are getting picked up.
Threads are currently using topics of conversation to pick up the subject matter as well as the people you are following. It will show other profiles on your “homepage” so you can follow other people and businesses.
You can use hashtags if you want to, as we have become accustomed to using them, however, they won’t work in the same way as they do on other social media channels. Don’t rule out the use of them though – it may be something that will happen in a matter of weeks or months.
