TikTok is the most recent social media company to incorporate avatars into its platform.
The company recently announcedit is:
“Yet another way for people to showcase their individuality” on the popular short-form video app.
Your TikTok Avatar replicates your motions, mouth movements, and expressions by using motion-detection software.
The short form video app stated in its announcement that it would pay heed to creator feedback and its Creator Diversity Collective to assure people that the avatars, which feature a range of skin tones, hair colors, and hair textures, are inclusive
Steps to make a TikTok Avatar
- Users should open up their front camera
- Then open the effects section
- Select the Avatar effect
This has come very shortly after Instagram launched their own version of Digital Avatars, moving closer to the Metaverse shift that Meta is looking to undertake long-term.

The world after a pandemic is rapidly changing, and technology is being used to construct a new reality, with AR and Digital Identities being a large factor in this.
Users of the platform will also eventually be able to add a miniature avatar to their videos, shrinking it down and positioning it anywhere on the screen.
For added anonymity, users can combine their custom avatars with TikTok’s pre-existing voice effects.
This is definetely not a new concept, Snapchat was first in-line when they paid $100 million in 2016 to acquire Bitstrips, the creator of the Bitmoji cartoon-avatar app.
