For whatever reason it may be, perhaps a lack of inspiration or you’ve made an entirely new channel, you might want to delete your YouTube channel.
In some instances, you might have really embarassing old videos that you want no one to see.
The good news is, this is relatively simple to do and there are 2 different options depending on if you’re looking to delete forever or temporarily hide your channel.
However, it is highly important to note, the steps to both are essentially the same, you just have the option to select one or the other towards the end of the process!
Deleting a YouTube channel
- Launch YouTube in a web browser and sign in to the account you wish to delete.
- On the left side of the homepage, tap Settings.
- Here on the Account tab of the Settings menu, in the Your channel section, press the View advanced settings option.
- Select the Delete channel option. You most likely will be required to enter your password.
- You will be given two options on the following page: I want to hide my content and I want to permanently delete my content. Select your preferred option.
- A drop-down bar will popup, indicating which items will be permanently deleted or hidden. To proceed, check all of the boxes before clicking the ‘Delete My Content’ or ‘Hide My Content’ button.
- Another popup may then appear, asking you to confirm the above.
- Click the ‘Delete My Content’ or ‘Hide My Conten’t button again.
If you have opted to ‘Delete’ your channel, note that all your playlists and content can no longer be restored.
Re-enable a hidden channel
Additionally, to restore a YouTube channel, you will have to fill out a form to re-enable hidden content and make your channel public once again.
As per YouTube help:
- Sign in to YouTube.
- Go to create a channel and fill out the form. This action will restore your YouTube channel. In the form, don’t click “To use a business or other name, click here.” This action will create a channel instead of restoring your hidden channel.
- After you re-create your public channel, you can make your videos and playlists viewable in the Videos page.
