Did you notice the slightly tweaked Instagram logo on your phone? The photo and video sharing platform introduced a new version of the square Instagram logo that is much brighter and sharper than the previous one.
Instagram Logo
The reason why we asked if you have noticed, is because both old and new logos look exactly the same with the smallest of changes. Instagram said ‘our vibrant gradient was reimaged using an innovative 3D modelling process to make it feel illuminated and alive. The Instagram gradient, made up of our brand colors, is the foundation of our complete color system. Through illumation, the gradient signals moments of discovery in our marketing, logo and even in-app as seen in Create mode, strickers and Instagram Story ring. We’re excited to bring to life to the Instagram experience through the energy of our reimagined gradient.’
The Artist
Instagram published the news of the Instagram logo rebrand along with the announcement of Instagram Sans, a new typeface for the app. The artist Rose Pilkington who created the logo, posted the image onto her own Instagram account captioning it:
‘Out with the old and IN with the new! In the past week you may have noticed your Instagram icon looks a little different. Many months ago, I was commissioned @instagram to recreate their iconic gradient logo. The idea behind this design was to enhance, refresh and illuminate – with a whole new set of vivid colours, I set out to build a new gradient, entirely in 3D, made from light.
I built a simple rig, made up of multiple coloured lights. The rig allowed me to switch colours and move compositions around easily. The logo was last redesigned in 2016, and today marks a refresh, Yes, to the eye it’s a subtle change, but its made up of different ingredients this time. Hundred of versions, iterations and combinations were created over many months and this is where we landed. Hope you like it but don’t troll me if you don’t 🌈 It was a pleasure working with you @instagram thank you for having me⚡️’
